The Final Fight Series: A Journey Through Time

Directed by Yoshiki Okamoto, the original Final Fight was a resounding success in arcades. It paved the way for two sequels, Final Fight 2 (1993) and Final Fight 3 (1995), which were developed specifically for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) by Capcom's consumer division. This marked a shift in the game's development approach as there were no preceding arcade versions for these sequels.

The original SNES version of Final Fight featured the characters Haggar and Cody, but missed out on including Guy and also lacked the two-player feature. A subsequent release in 1992, titled Final Fight Guy, included Guy but not Cody, yet it too lacked the two-player feature.

In 1999, Capcom launched a 3D spinoff of the game, Final Fight Revenge, on Sega's Titan arcade hardware. The game was also released for Sega Saturn exclusively in Japan. 2006 saw the introduction of Final Fight: Streetwise for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, a sequel set in 3D.

The series' latest release as of 2010 is Final Fight: Double Impact, a compilation that bundles the original Final Fight with Magic Sword, another Capcom classic.

Final Fight's Influence on Other Games

Final Fight's influence extends beyond its own series. The game has served as an inspiration and source for characters in other Capcom titles. A notable example is the game Captain Commando, set in a future version of Metro City. Moreover, several characters from Final Fight have made their way into various Street Fighter games and other Capcom fighting titles.

The Mad Gear member Bred even makes a cameo in Super Street Fighter IV during the car vandalizing bonus stage, replicating his role in Final Fight. Other characters such as Abigail, Cody, Lucia, and Poison were added to Street Fighter V as DLC characters.

Final Fight's characters have also found their way into other gaming franchises like Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken, and Namco x Capcom, further solidifying Final Fight's place in gaming lore.
